The History of Bridesmaids

One of the many jobs of a professional wedding consultant is to explain to their clients the history and meaning behind many wedding traditions and etiquette.  I have yet to have a couple that knew the historical purpose of “bridesmaids” and they are always surprised when they learn.  I found this lovely little video that touches on this topic and I thought I would share.

July Featured Vendor~Hybrid Moon Video Productions

When ever I meet with new couples that ask me to help them find wedding vendors, I ask them to do a couple “homework assignments.”  One of the assignments to ask as many married couples what was the best part of their wedding day, and what things do they regret about their wedding day.  Overwhelming the responses gathered are typically, “we should have hired a professional wedding coordinator” (thank you!) and/or “we should have hired a professional Videographer.”

There is nothing like being able to watch your wedding video each year on your anniversary, or to share your video with family and friends that could not have been there on your special day. One of my favorite reasons why a couple hired a professional Videographer was to be able to play their wedding video for their future children, now how special is that!

If you haven’t selected your Videographer, look into Hybrid Moon Productions.  I highly recommend this team of trained professionals that have a variety of packages to work with any budget.  Couples, please consider all the possibilities of having a wedding video and don’t let this be one of your regrets, it is worth it!  Watch the video from Portland’s finest Wedding Videographer, Hybrid Moon Productions explain why to hire a Videographer.

Flower of the month-July

Peony

Most peonies are herbaceous perennial plants 0.5–1.5 meters tall, but some are woody shrubs up to 1.5–3 meters tall. They have compound, deeply lobed leaves, and large, often fragrant flowers, ranging from red to white or yellow, in late spring and early summer.

The peony is among the longest-used flowers in ornamental culture and is one of the smallest national emblems in China. Along with the plum blossom, it is a traditional floral symbol of China, where it is called 牡丹 (mǔ dān). It is also known as 贵花 (fuguihua) “flower of riches and honour”, and is used symbolically in Chinese art.  In 1903, the Qing Dynasty declared the peony as the national flower.

According to the Language of Flowers, mischievous nymphs were said to hide in the petals of the Peony thus causing this magnificent flower to be given the meaning of bashfulness. Once planted the Peony likes to be left alone and punishes those who try to move it by not flowering again for several years. Once established, however, it produces splendid blooms each year for decades.

Some peony bouquet pictures from local florist Ink & Pete, oh how I love her!

The Association of Bridal Consultants, Oregon

Tuesday evening The World Trade Center hosted our monthly

Association of Bridal Consultants and Vendors meeting (a.k.a “ABC”).  It was a HOT 92 degrees yet we were completely shaded in WTC’s courtyard as we shipped Blue Hawaiians from a tiki ice luge designed by ABC member Creative Ice.   The Prop Shop supplied our Hawaiian themed backgrounds and trees to frame our entertainment of the evening, Hawaiian singer Francis Doo with NW Artist Management.   Thanks to the ladies from Sweet Dreams Bridal Consultants and Simply Elegant Events for planning a great meeting.

Our neighbors, New & Blue

Tonight marks our First Thursday of the season!  We had to stop in and see our new neighbors in the Peal, wedding accessory boutique,

New & Blue.  Our friendly hosts served us champagne from perfectly matched blue champagne flutes and tiny cupcakes from Cupcake Jones.  We sipped contently as we browsed their many wedding invitations and fun gifts.  What a treat to mark the beginning of a long holiday weekend!  The night wouldn’t have been complete without seeing our friends at Oba restaurant.  You haven’t experienced First Thursday in the Peal until you end the evening with one of their signature prickly pear or mango margaritas!  Even the little min pin Georgie is treated like royalty at Oba, they brought him is own dog bowl full of water, I heart this city!

“Best of” Oregon Bride Magazine 2008

Last night some of our industry friends gathered to celebrate Oregon Bride Magazines “Best of 2008” awards.  The magazine tabulates votes from readers and industry pros to select their winners.  Of those deserving individuals who won last night, here are my personal favs;

  • Dream Cakes winner of the best cake baker and designer in Oregon
  • Vibrant Table, winner of the best caterer in Oregon
  • Wedding Cottage, winner of the best bridal accessories in Oregon
  • Best Car in Town, winner of the best couple getaway car in Oregon
  • All Wright Music, winner of the best reception DJ in Oregon
  • Hybrid Moon, winner of the best wedding Videographer in Oregon

A special recognition to The Lawrence Gallery who hosted us this year and did a tremendous job of it!  Those couples out there that are still searching for a unique venue for their ceremony or reception, you need to come to the Peal and see this beautiful and unique space.

A special “thanks” to the team of Oregon Bride, you threw a wonderful party and Simon Tam the Art Director, congratulations on a beautiful fall/winter issue!

Here are some shots of my friends and esteemed colleagues having a party thrown for us for a change!
